How to reinstall eDirectory on a NetWare server

Novell eDirectory 8.6.x for NetWare

Novell eDirectory 8.7.x for NetWare

Message:  "eDirectory v8.7.0 is already installed . . ."

Message:  "eDirectory v8.x.x is already installed . . ."

Installation failed during GUI file copy and configuration

Keyboard and mouse did not function when GUI installation started

Installation aborted during GUI file copy and configuration

At the time that the GUI installation begins, the eDirectory database has already been converted and the appropriate NLM's are loaded.  The server should be able to communicate with other servers in the tree.  The GUI portion of the installation copies files and configures products such as ConsoleOne, LDAP, NDS iMonitor, Certificate Server, NMAS, SMDR, etc.  These are additional features of eDirectory, but are not required for the core functionality of eDirectory.

If the installation failed or aborted during the GUI portion, it is very easy to re-launch the installation of eDirectory.  Do the following:

1.  Make sure that the JAVA GUI screen is unloaded.
2.  Type UINSTALL EDIR at the command prompt. (This only removes the EDIR entry from the products.dat file.  It does NOT uninstall eDirectory)
3.  Launch the eDirectory installation again.
4.  If the installation fails again, make sure that the installation files are not corrupt by downloading a fresh copy of the install files.
5.  Further troubleshooting may be required if still running into problems.
