symptom

Mac SSL authentication is not working

fix

There are three main issues why MAC SSL authentication is not working for some users:

1. IE has two fields for proxy services:

a. Proxy services field

b. Secure proxy services

Both needs to be filled with border ip and port (8080) to work.

2. Border running on NW6

- some users get the following error:

"Not Found, The requested URL /BM-Login/ was not found on this server."

what is happening is:

though in the authentication redirect url we append the 'nwadmin configured ssl port'

- windows browsers will still go by their configuration for SSL proxy

- MAC browsers seems to ignore its own ssl proxy configuration, and uses the port specified in the authentication redirect.

This page is an apache page. Apache was conflicting with bm authentication. Apache was configured to listen on port 443. After unload apache or change the SSL port to a different one, mac ssl authentication was working. See TID 10071649 to change Apache configuration.

Latest tcpip stack (p version) will show a messages when proxy tries to bind to a socket (ip address+port) already in use.

3. IE settings for proxy services can be entered as an IP addresses or border DNS name. Some customers reported that, instead to use the IP address of the bm server, change the IE settings to use the border DNS name make mac ssl authentication to work.
