NetWare/IP Port Numbers

(Last modified: 21Apr1999)

This document (2908412) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

What ports should be left open on a firewall to allow NetWare/IP traffic through?

The default UDP port numbers used by NetWare/IP are 43981 (hex ABCD) and 43982 (hex ABCE). These port numbers can be changed in the Unicon utility in the configuration for the Primary DSS under the following selection: Manage Services, NetWare/IP, Configure Primary DSS, Tunable Parameters, UDP Port Number for NetWare/IP Service. The Domain SAP / RIP Server (DSS) from NetWare/IP uses both UDP and TCP port number 396. DNS uses UDP port number 53. Port 396 was purchased by Novell for exclusive use in our DSS transfers. Echo UDP port 7 must be opened as well.

These ports should remain open on any firewall that needs to pass NetWare/IP packets.
