migfiles fails because SMDRD will not start

This document (7000191) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

Novell Open Enterprise Server (Linux based)

Situation

Trying to copy files from NetWare NSS volume to a SLES 10 OES 2 NSS volume using migfiles. Found that /etc/init.d/novell-smdrd was not running. When trying to restart it the service would come back as unused.

Resolution

Found that viewing smdr option through iManager was corrupting the /etc/opt/novell/sms/smdrd.conf file. Replaced the file from a good server and now novell-smdrd will start.
