How to Graft GroupWise Objects

Resolution

Step-by-Step Solution Using ConsoleOne: (see note section)
This procedure is Non-Invasive
Administrators are able to graft an infinite number of times whilst the system is active without causing any problems to production.

Additional Information

Connecting to a Domain after deleting NDS.
(if you have the need to restore GroupWise to a new tree, and/or you've re-created a server and need to restore the GroupWise directory structure, follow this methodology)

1. Copy the GWDOM.DC and GWPO.DC files either from another working domain directory or from the Domain directory in the Software Distrobution Directory to the directory of the domain you wish to connect to.
2. Load ConsoleOne.
3. Move to Tools | GroupWise System Operations | Select Domain.
4. Browse to the domain database directory to which you wish to connect and click OK.
5. You will be asked to log in to the tree to which the domain was previously associated. Whatever the case DO NOT log into this tree.
6. You will receive a connection error and possibly an error that reads you do not have rights to manage the object or the domain.
7. Click Cancel on these errors until you are left with ConsoleOne by itself. (do not attempt to administer any GroupWise objects at this time)
8. From here you are prepared to graft the objects into the tree.
Grafting Domains, Post Offices and Gateways

1.  Highlight the NDS Container Object where you would like to graft the objects.
2.  Move to Tools | GroupWise Utilities | GW/NDS Association | Graft GroupWise Objects.
3.  Choose Domains, post offices, and gateways.  Click Next.
4.  Click Next at the Overview.
5.  Choose the domain you would like to graft from the list provided.  You will only be able to choose one.
6.  Click Next.
7.  Note the context.  If the domain already exists in this context it will be grayed out and you will not be able to change it.  If it does not exist, you will be able to change the domain context if you so choose at this time.
8.  Click Next.
9.  Note the post office contexts.  If they already exist in the contexts, you will not be able to change them.  If they do not exist, you will be able to change the contexts of all PO's underneath the domain at your discretion.
10.  Click Next.
11.  The Summary screen will show what you have chosen.  Click Finish to proceed.
12.  Once the procedure is complete you will be asked if you want to graft more objects. You can repeat the procedure for the domains, post offices, and gateways for other domains if you wish.
13.  After exiting the wizard, the domains and post offices grafted are able to be administered.
14.  IF YOU ARE GRAFTING THE DOMAINS AND PO'S INTO A NEW TREE:
       a.  Be advised that, though the domains and po's are now grafted, they may not have taken on all the desired properties.
       b.  Make sure that you have changed the UNC paths within the domain and post office property tabs.
       c.  Also ensure that the IP addresses are all changed within the link configuration properties and in the agent settings for the MTA and POA.
Grafting Users, Resources, and Distribution Lists

1.  Highlight the NDS Container Object where you would like to graft the objects.
2.  Move to Tools | GroupWise Utilities | GW/NDS Association | Graft GroupWise Objects.
3.  Choose Users, resources, and distribution lists. Click Next.
4.  Click Next at the Overview.
5.  You are then given the option to select one or more post offices from which users will be grafted into NDS.  If you have never performed the operation before, please proceed by choosing only one post office first.
6.  Click Next.
7.  If you would like to match Additional User Fields, you may choose to do so.  In most instances this is not necessary, however.  Make the choice (default is "No") and click Next.
8.  You will then be asked to choose a context for your resources.  Depending on where the resources are located you can choose the top-most container in the tree if you wish.  The grafting wizard will search down the tree and will attempt to match objects as it proceeds.  Thus the administrator will not finish with a GroupWise resource potentially grafted into several different containers.  The same holds true for Distribution Lists and Libraries.  As an addendum, if this is a new tree into which you are grafting the resources, you will not be able to choose multiple containers for your resources across the tree.
9.  Click Next.
10.  You will then be asked to choose a container for the Distribution Lists.  Choosing the default container will, on occasion, cause an error to appear maintaining that a duplicate container exists and that you will need to choose a different container.  The easiest way to work around this is to create a sub-container to the current "graft" container and use this container for your distribution lists.
11.  Click Next.
12.  You then have the choice to choose your library container.  If you have libraries, ensure that you choose the correct container for their distribution.  If you do not have libraries, simply keep the default container and click Next.
13.  The match user screen appears and you must click Add.
14.  Depending on the situation, whether or not you've chosen one or more...or all post offices from which to graft users, you should choose the top-most container available.  The graft wizard will move down the tree searching for matching NDS objects and will show the results in the next window to pop up.  Click Next.
15.  You will see matched and unmatched users.  The unmatched users will need to be dealt with by choosing whether or not to ignore them, add them to a text file, or to create them as external GroupWise entities.  If these users need to have mail ASAP, please choose to create them as external entities.  They will have all the rights needed to be able to log in to GroupWise.
16.  If you choose the external entities option, you will be asked, after clicking Next, to choose the external entities context.  Choose here as you wish.  Some administrators like to create a new container just for these entities so that they can create actual NDS user objects later for these people if needed.  Click Next.
17.  The next window shows the Matched Users the wizard found in the tree.  Quickly look at these if needed to see that they are correct and then click Next.
18.  The summary screen can be browsed at the administrator's discretion.  Once he/she is satisfied that all looks good click Finish.
19.  After the grafting is finished, exit the wizard and manually ensure that the objects have been grafted according to your wishes.
