Update
Situation
System update
fails immediately after deploying from ZCC | System Update | Deploying System Updates,
from Pending toFailed.
System-update.log is missing or fails to get created.
ERROR: Novell.Zenworks.SystemUpdate.SystemUpdateModule.runInstallCommands... From the ZMD-MESSAGES.LOG.
The server receiving the System update was rebooted because the process seemed to be hung.

Resolution
The command to
launch the system update is launched from the C:\Program
Files\Novell\Zenworks\bin\ZenUdater.exe or on Linux /opt/novell/zenworks/bin/Zenupdater,
make sure this file is there and not renamed to .bak and has the
appropriate rights. Zenworks Zenworks for
Linux.
Manually launching the command from the zmd-messages.log will help isolate the issue. From a Lnux server run
ZENUpdater -w -v -c"/var/opt/novell/log/zenworks/system-update/50100202008b93e7d3949f03b6fb5eb5/update_commands.xml" -g 06f208369bc2319d7a41b2edd666ff14 -u https://10.10.10.11/zenworks-systemupdate/ -d
Note: A System update can take up to several hours to finish. Avoid a reboot if the progress seems to hang, this seems to be a common cause.
