Environment

Novell Client 2 SP1 for Windows Vista
Novell Client 2 SP1 for Windows 7

Novell Client 2 SP1 for Windows Server 2008 R2
Novell Client 2 for Windows Vista/2008

Novell Client 1.0 for Windows Vista

Situation

Windows Explorer can crash when attempting to navigate to a resource defined by a UNC path (i.e. \\server01\vol1\ ).  A similar crash can occur within any application when invoking a File Open dialog box or similar dialog which includes the ability to browse into network paths, or whenever directly or indirectly causing the application to invoke such code.

An error similar to the following will appear in the Windows event log:

Faulting application name: explorer.exe, version: 6.1.7600.16404, time stamp: 0x4a765771
Faulting module name: CALWIN32.DLL, version: 6.1.4.0, time stamp: 0x4afa6e1f
Exception code: 0xc0000005
Fault offset: 0x00000000000021d1
Faulting process id: 0x0000
Faulting application start time: 0x0000000000000000
Faulting application path: C:\Windows\explorer.exe
Faulting module path: C:\Windows\system32\CALWIN32.DLL
Report Id: xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx

This CALWIN32.DLL crash on the Novell Client for Windows 7 and Novell Client for Windows Vista is being caused by presence of the Novell ZENworks 7.x or earlier agent on the same machine.  A conflict is occurring between the Novell Client for Windows XTSVCMGR.EXE service and the Novell ZENworks 7.x and earlier XTAGENT.EXE service.

Windows 7 and Windows Vista platforms are supported by the Novell ZENworks 10.x and later agents.  The Novell ZENworks 10.x and later agents do not include or employ the XTAGENT.EXE service involved in this conflict.

Resolution

Fix included in Novell Client 2 SP1 for Windows (IR5). The Readme is located at https://download.novell.com/Download?buildid=rY6Gct-vl9U~.
