Volume loses disk space rapidly when delivering to a message database that is 2 GB on Linux

Environment

Novell GroupWise 2012
Novell GroupWise 8
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11
Novell Open Enterprise Server 11 (OES 11) Linux
Novell Open Enterprise Server 2 (OES 2) Linux

Situation

After a message database has reached 2 GB, the POA can not write to it any more. When a new message comes to the post office destined for that message database the POA writes the attachment to the offiles directory, however when it tries to write to the message database is gets this error:
09:20:07 560 The database function 48 reported error [8200] on msg99.db
09:20:07 560 Error: Generic file I/O error [8200]
09:20:07 560  Error Processing Message: [8200]

Because of this error POA is unable to write to the message database and the transaction is aborted, however the attachment in the offiles remains (this will be cleaned up by a contents check after 2 weeks as an orphaned blob file).

As the message had not yet been delivered, the POA tries to deliver the message again and fails again. The POA gets stuck in a loop and continues to write the blob file repeatedly.

Resolution

The issue has been reported to development and has been addressed in GroupWise 2012 SP2 and GroupWise 8.0x in builds after build 103755.  The 8.0x builds must be requested from GroupWise Support.

Note: The problem only happens with the Linux POA.
