Environment

Novell GroupWise 2012 Support Pack 1

Situation

You can configure GroupWise client to create a mail copy file on your desktop when you drag-and-drop some mail from your mailbox. If you then double-click on such *.eml file, the mail gets opened. After applying SP2 of GW2012 client this does not seem to work anymore. Neither there is a file association with GroupWise client.

Resolution

This has been reported to a development and a bug resolution is scheduled for SP3.
Since there is no application associated with the *.eml file, a natural way to resolve it by many administrators is to manually set association of this file extension with a GroupWise client. However, this still usually does not help and after double-click a mail is not opened.
What you will need to do:

1. Close GroupWise client and any components.

2. Start Windows registry editor and delete
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.eml
from the registry.

3. Start command line and run following:
grpwise.exe /UnregServer
grpwise.exe /RegServer

Try next to double-click on the eml file on your desktop. If a client was not started, it shall start, you will have to authenticate and then it the mail gets opened.
Shall this procedure not helping in a resolution of the problem, try to re-run the GroupWise client installation and choose Repair option.
