Environment

Novell GroupWise 2012

Situation

Typing in a search term in the upper right hand search box in Webaccess takes a long time to complete.

Resolution

When typing a term/word into the "Search" input area, the entire mailbox is searched for the string.  This can be problematic if the mailbox is unusually large or has a large number of folders and messages shared with the user.

1)  Use the "Find" button from the list of buttons across the top to narrow down the search to specific folders or message types, ie. mail or appointment.

2)  If searching a shared folders that are shared from a single user, obtain proxy access to the account and perform the search while proxied into that account.

Cause

There are two primary reasons for search slowness when searching the entire mailbox:

1)  The QuickFinder indexes for an individual are not complete and thus require additional time to return information on items that are not indexed.  Searches in both Webaccess and the regular Windows client would suffer in this scenario.

2)  There are large number of folders and messages being shared with the person doing the searching, the use of SOAP protocol requires that information for each folder be requested separately instead of checking a single index.
