Sybase Database won't start after moving it to a new Primary Server

Environment

Novell ZENworks Configuration Management 11.2 Database on Linux

Situation

Moving the internal Sybase database from one primary server to another primary server
Database files have been moved over to the new server
Sybase has been installed on the new server

The following error is seen when running novell-zenworks-configure -c Start :

SEVERE: There was an error starting ZEN_DATABASE.

Starting Sybase Adaptive Server Anywhere /etc/init.d/sybase-asa: line 56:
14337 Segmentation fault (core dumped) $DB_EXEC -ud @$DB_CONF_FILE
 
Unable to start service : ZEN_DATABASE


A similar error is seen when starting the service manually with /etc/init.d/sybase-asa start :

Starting Sybase Adaptive Server Anywhere  /etc/init.d/sybase-asa: line 56: 18176 Segmentation fault      (core dumped) $DB_EXEC -ud @$DB_CONF_FILE


The service is not started as indicated by running /etc/init.d/sybase-asa status :

Checking for Sybase Adaptive Server Anywhere: dbsrv10 is stopped

Resolution

Run the following commands to resolve the issue and verify it is resolved:

  1. rpm -Uvh /opt/novell/zenworks/install/downloads/rpm/sybase-asa-12.0.0-2624.i586.rpm
  2. /etc/init.d/sybase-asa start
  3. /etc/init.d/sybase-asa status

Cause

In this case, Sybase 10 was installed instead of the required Sybase 12
