Microsoft Office with the "Office File Verification" feature enabled
Situation
Very slow performance when saving or loading files located on Novell volumes.
Opening the file from network drive or saving to network drive takes a long time.
Problem seems to be limited to Microsoft Office files.
Other file types, such as CAD files are not affected.

Resolution
Disable Office File Validation. Follow this Microsoft document to disable it:

Cause
Enabling Office File Validation (OFV) can result in slow performance, especially with Microsoft Office 2003 or 2007.
