Novell GroupWise 2014 R2
Situation
After updating to GroupWise 2014 R2 from an older version of GroupWise, the POA or DVA crashes on Linux.
Resolution
One reason, not the only reason, this could happen is because there is a current unresolved issue with the Post Office agent to where if there is no configured DVA assigned to the post office, the POA will auto-load one as a child process, which could result in the POA crashing.
Until this issue is resolved, please configure a DVA for your Post Office agents if you do not have one.
You can check this by going to your GroupWise Web admin console, SYSTEM, Document Viewer Agent, if you do not have DVA on this list then :
1. Click on ADD, type a name for the DVA, does not matter the name.
2. Type the ip address of the server where the DVA will run
3. Type a port in which the DVA will listen on, use the default
port of 8301 unless it is already in use.
4. In the GroupWise web admin console, under the properties of the Post Office agent, Document Viewer agent tab, under the "DVA Viewer 1" drop down, select the DVA you just created in the steps above. Then click SAVE.
Cause
There was a bug in the POA's auto-load process to launch a DVA process in the background when there was not configured DVA in the GroupWise 2014 R2 Web Admin console.
Additional Information
NOTE:
DVA creation (other than initial GW install) in the GroupWise web admin console does not create the DVA service. You must manually create the DVA service with the gwadminutil command line utility.
Check if you have an existing DVA entry in the "gwha.conf" file (linux) in the /etc/opt/novell/groupwise/ directory. If you have an entry already in the gwha.conf file, then you do not need to install the DVA service as listed in the below web page.
