Environment

Client for Open Enterprise Server 2 SP4 (IR3)
Microsoft Windows 7
Microsoft Windows 2008 R2

Situation

The “Always trust software from Micro Focus” checkbox on the Microsoft Publisher Verification prompt may not work when installing on Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2.

Resolution

Apply Microsoft HotFix KB2921916 on Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 platforms.

NOTE: As Microsoft ended mainstream support for Windows 7 on January 13, 2016, they have apparently removed access to this hotfix. You may be able to get it from Microsoft if you have a support contract, since extended support won't end until January 14, 2020.

In addition, to suppress the Microsoft Publisher Verification prompt from occurring during the Client for Open Enterprise Server installation, select the “Always trust software from Micro Focus” checkbox or pre-install the Micro Focus SHA-2 certificate as a “Trusted Publisher”.

Cause

When installing the Client for Open Enterprise Sever 2 SP4 (IR3) and later releases which are signed using a new Micro Focus SHA-2 certificate, selecting the “Always trust software from Micro Focus” checkbox presented on the Microsoft Publisher Verification prompt may not result in the successful suppression of this prompt during future installations.

The same issue can apply to customers who have pre-installed the new Micro Focus SHA-2 certificate as a “Trusted Publisher” on their Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2 machines, as described in “Signing Requirements for the Novell Client Installation”.  Even though the updated certificate is successfully and correctly installed as a “Trusted Publisher”, the Microsoft Publisher Verification prompt may be presented anyway during future Client for Open Enterprise Server installations and upgrades.

Microsoft has made HotFix KB2921916 available to address this issue on Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 platforms.  Any customer wishing to suppress the Microsoft Publisher Verification prompt from occurring during the Client for Open Enterprise Server installation will need to apply this Windows HotFix, in addition to selecting the “Always trust software from Micro Focus” checkbox or pre-installing the Micro Focus SHA-2 certificate as a “Trusted Publisher”.
