Environment

Micro Focus iPrint Appliance 2.1
Micro Focus iPrint Appliance 3.0

Situation

The remote renderer status stays in a Configuring state and never progresses to Active.

Resolution

Uninstall the iPrint Client for Windows from the Windows renderer workstation using the Control Panel program uninstall procedure, then follow TID 7017935 to remove and re-add the remote renderer.

Cause

The cause is unknown.  Removing the iPrint Client for Windows is not a requirement.  Some reports have shown that having the iPrint Client for Windows installed resolves problems with configuring a remote renderer.  Then there is the scenario documented in this TID where having the iPrint Client for Windows installed creates problems when configuring a remote renderer.

Additional Information

The last step of configuring an iPrint remote renderer is to register the renderer using the Management Console's Renderer tool.  Typically, the status of the new renderer will show Configuring for a few minutes, then eventually show Active.  Note: you must hit the tool's refresh button to see the status change to Active.  The greater number of unique drivers associated to mobile enabled printers, the longer the Configuring status remains.  For every unique driver, a printer is installed in the Windows remote renderer's Printers and Devices list.  In the case of this problem, no printers get installed to the Windows remote renderer.
