Filr Desktop client leaves behind tmp files that cannot be opened or removed

Environment

Micro Focus Filr 3
Micro Focus Filr Desktop client for Windows

Situation

When using the Desktop client, some temporary (.tmp) files are randomly generated during save operations on Microsoft Office files which never go away.

For example, a user editing an Excel spreadsheet workbook1.xlsx and saving it back to the Filr folder may observe generation of random temporary files such as 103EA35.tmp. If the user tries to open or remove these files, an error is reported that the user does not have the required access rights.

Resolution

A fix for this issue is available in the Filr 3.2.1 Update. The fix will prevent creation of such .tmp files, however any files currently in this state will need to be cleaned up by re-installing the Filr Desktop client.

Cause

Filr syncapp was unaware of the tmp file name format.
