System Requirements:
This update can be applied to a Filr site that is currently on any one of the following versions:

Micro Focus Filr Appliance versions: 3.0.0 to 3.3.4
Micro Focus Filr Search Appliance versions: 3.0 to 3.3.4
Micro Focus Filr MySQL Appliance versions: 3.0 to 3.3.3

Important Notes:
  • If you have disabled access to one or more Net Folders via the Filr Desktop client, your settings will be reset after applying the Filr 3.4 Update and users will be able to see/access these Net Folders using the Desktop client in Online-only access mode. If you wish to disable access to the Net Folders via the Filr Desktop client, re-visit the Net Folder configuration > Data Synchronization tab and uncheck the box for 'This folder can be accessed from the user's desktop' after applying the Filr 3.4 Update. See Filr 3.4 Release Notes for more details.
  • This update is provided via the Filr Online Update channel accessible via the Filr Appliance Configuration console (port 9443).
  • This update is required on the Filr, Filr Search and Filr MySQL appliance(s) in your Filr deployment.
  • As a best practice, it is recommended to always check the "Needed Patches" on All appliances before starting to apply the update(s) to ensure you are running all available updates on each appliance.
  • It is recommended to Stop Filr service (see how to stop Filr service) and update the Filr MySQL and Filr Search appliances first before starting the updates on the Filr appliance(s).
The Filr MySQL and Filr Search appliances MUST BE up and running when you start applying updates to the Filr appliance.
  • The updates may take up to 20 minutes to complete depending on the number of updates being applied. For example, if you are updating from Filr 3.0 all the way to 3.4 Update, it may take up to 20 minutes for the update progress bar to complete. We recommend that you wait for the progress bar to complete and not disrupt the update process.

Installation:
This update is provided via the Filr Online Update Channel. Please follow these steps on all Filr, Filr Search and Filr MySQL appliance(s) in your Filr deployment:
  1. Login to the Filr Appliance Configuration console (https://hostname:9443) as 'vaadmin' and select the Online Update icon.

  2. Toggle to the 'Needed Patches' in the patches download. Take note if one (or more) needed patches requires restart (column Restart Required = Yes).

  3. Important: Stop the Filr service on all Filr nodes (see how to stop Filr service) and repeat Steps 4-8 in the following order: MySQL appliance first, then Search appliance(s) and Filr appliance(s) last.
The Filr MySQL and Filr Search appliances MUST BE up and running when you start applying updates to the Filr appliance.
If you have a Small (all-in-one) Filr deployment, ignore this step and proceed to Step 4.

  4. Click 'Update Now' button.

  5. In the 'Update Now' pop-up, select 'All Needed Patches' and select the two options:
    a. Automatically agree with all license agreements
    b. Automatically install all interactive patches

  6. Hit OK to apply the updates.

  7. Toggle to the 'Installed Patches' in the patches download and verify all the updates are listed as installed.

  8. Reboot the appliance if one of the patches you just installed required a restart (as indicated in Step 2 above).

Known Issues:
  1. Net Folders that were previously configured to No access from the Filr Desktop client are automatically enabled after the Filr 3.4 Update.
If you have disabled access to one or more Net Folders via the Filr Desktop client, your settings will be reset after applying the Filr 3.4 Update and users will be able to see/access these Net Folders using the Desktop client in Online-only access mode.

  2. All updates are applied and listed under the 'Installed Patches' list but trying to access Filr results in Internal Error 500. What's wrong?
Internal Error 500 usually indicates there was a problem during the Filr service startup. This could happen for a variety of reasons, such as the MySQL or Search appliances being unavailable when Filr service was restarted. As a first step, shut down all appliances and start in this order: MySQL, Search, Filr.

If the problem persists, please contact Micro Focus Customer Care.

  3. The update progress bar shows progress but patch update never completes.
This usually happens if the two options (a. Automatically agree with all license agreements and b. Automatically install all interactive patches) were not selected. To fix this problem, please cancel out of the update page and try installing the update again with the two options selected.

  4. It's been 20 minutes and the update progress bar is still spinning. Is it stuck?
As noted in the Important Notes above, it may take up to 20 minutes for all updates to be applied depending on how many updates need to be applied. We recommend that you wait for the progress bar to complete and not disrupt the update process for at least 30 minutes before contacting Micro Focus Customer Care. If you have cancelled out of the browser, and updates are no longer showing under 'Needed patches', chances are that the updates are still being applied in the background and the activity should be logged in the /var/log/zypp/history file.

  5. If configuring a new Filr 3.0 system for Online Updates for the first time using "SMT Server" or with a "Proxy Server", the registration may fail if the Filr server is in a private network.
To fix this problem, please consult KB 7020906 for Proxy configuration and/or KB 7018759  for SMT configuration.
