Environment

Novell GroupWise 703
Novell GroupWise 703 HP1
Novell GroupWise 703 HP2
Novell GroupWise 8
Novell GroupWise 8 HP1

Situation

When attaching a file to a new message, or a reply to an existing message, the Win32 client will completely lock up.  It never returns an error.  It never attaches the file to the message.  The client never returns and must be closed by ending grpwise.exe process in Task Manager

Resolution

This only happens when one of the Xerox MFD printers is set as the default printer.  Some of the Xerox models include 3635, 5632, 5645, 7425 and 7345.  If any non-Xerox printer is selected as the default printer that file is attached just fine.  This happens if the printer is installed locally or as an iPrint printer.  The printer does print fine from other applications and will also print fine from GroupWise.

The printer drivers for these printers, according to Xerox, are trying to talk to the printer while attaching the file to the message.  To stop this dialog, go to the Properties of the printer and click on the Configuration tab.  Under Configuration, select the Bidirectional Setup and set it to off.
