Environment

Novell GroupWise 7
Novell GroupWise 8
Novell SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 9
Novell SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 10
Novell Open Enterprise Server (Linux based)

Situation

Configuration:
GroupWise Agents on Linux are running with non-root user privilege

Symptoms:
Admin changes does not take effect while running GroupWise Agents as non-root user
Admin files are created with root credentials resulting in MTA unable to modfy the files while running with non-root user privilege.
Following error can be seen on the MTA logs "xx:xx:xx xxx MTP: server_name: Couldn't open/lock file: /path_to_domain_directory/mslocal/mshold/poxxxxx/xxxxxxxx.xxx [8201]"

Resolution

Reported to Engineering

Workaround:
Run the ConsoleOne with same non-root user specified in the uid.conf file located in /etc/opt/novell/groupwise/agents directory. ConsoleOne 1.3.6f or later versions can be run as a non-root user.
or
Run the Agents with root user privilege. To run the GroupWise agents with root user privilege, delete the uid.conf file located in /etc/opt/novell/groupwise/agents directory and delete the uid.run file from the domain, post office and GWIA directory serviced by the agent. Restart the agents.

Additional Information

Notes:
If ConsoleOne is running as root user, the admin changes will not take effect as it creates admin messages with root privilege and agent will not be able to access those admin messages as its configured to run with non-root user privilege.
