Environment

Novell GroupWise 7
Novell GroupWise 8
Novell GroupWise 2012

Situation

When trying to login in a mailbox with IMAP4/POP3 based clients into GroupWise mailbox, a user gets login failed kind of errors based upon what tool or client he tried and also a GroupWise version used. All works fine when using a native GroupWise client.

Resolution

A reason behind login problems when using POP3 or IMAP4 protocols originates in your email address formats restrictions defined within the Internet Addressing configuration. If, for instance, you disabled a UserID@iDomain format, then you will fail to login via IMAP4/POP3 clients using UserID as his login name. You should then rather use, for instance, a user`s default email address format visible in C1 or one of allowed email address formats in the GroupWise system. Example, if his default email address shows First.Last@iDomain, configure IMAP4/POP3 clients to use First.Last as his login name instead of UserID which would fail. Naturally make sure that both First and Last names are filled in his eDir user object.
