Environment

Novell ZENworks 7 Desktop Management Support Pack 1 - ZDM7 SP1

Situation

When launching nalwin using parameters,
such as the /a parameter e.g.
nalwin /a="Groupwise Launch.apps.home"
or with the /s parameter, e.g.,
nalwin /s
or with the /c parameter, e.g.,
nalwin /c="Shaun's Applications"
or any other parameter, other than /?
the splash screen appears, and never closes. The application does not launch. If the task manager is used to kill the nalwin process, it is necessary to reboot the device before nalwin can be reloaded.

If debugging is enabled (see TID 3112868"Enable debug logging in ZDM 6.5 and 7"), the file zfdnal.csv contains
NAL UI Thread, Showing splash window infinately for Ron and Scott

Resolution

Fixed in ZENworks 7 Desktop Management Service Pack 1 Interim Release 4 Hot Patch 4, see KB 3484245 "Updates to Novell ZENworks 7 Desktop Management" which can be found at https://www.novell.com/support

Workaround: if it is not possible to upgrade to ZDM7 SP1 IR4a HP4 at this time, in the interim Novell has made a Patch available for testing, in the form of a Field Test File (FTF): it can be obtained at https://download.novell.com/Download?buildid=sODx3M2hnt8~ as "ZDM 7 SP1 IR4a HP3 nalshell.dll patch - see TID 7005535". This Patch should only be applied if the symptoms above are being experienced, and are causing problems.

This Patch has had limited testing, and should not be used in a production system without first being checked in a test environment. Some Patches have specific requirements for deployment, it is very important to follow any instructions in the readme at the download site. Please report any problems encountered when using this Patch, by using the feedback link on this TID.
