Group Policy not applying if the GPT.ini file is too large.

Environment

Novell ZENworks Desktop Management 7 - ZDM7 Desktop Management

Situation

If a Group Policy is large, it may have many policy extensions and snap-in extensions, each is represented by a GUID within the GPT.ini. If the line size in the GPT.ini is bigger than the 4K buffer limit it will not be processed and the Group Policy will not be applied correctly.

Resolution

Fixed in ZENworks 7 with SP1 Desktop Management, available at Novell Downloads

Additional Information

Each line of the GroupPolicy.UserCache and GroupPolicy.WksCache GPT.ini files are read line by line in to a 4K buffer before being merged in to the final GrouPolicy GPT.ini. A policy extension consists of a beginning "[ "and ends with "]". If the 4K limit is reached before the "]" is read then the syntax of the GPT.ini is seen as incorrect and the section is not merged.
