Environment

Novell ZENworks 7 Desktop Management Support Pack 1 - ZDM7 SP1 Desktop Management

Situation

A local login to a workstation, the workstation freezes during the application of the cached Group Policies.

Resolution

Fixed in ZENworks 7 Desktop Management Service Pack 1 Interim Release 3a, available at https://download.novell.com

The patch just prevents this problem from happening in the future on working machines: if machines are already broken, the cached group policy directories need to be deleted on the broken machines:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\GroupPolicy.UserCache

C:\WINDOWS\system32\GroupPolicy.WksCache

Additional Information

Steps to duplicate:
1. Create a User package enable
DLU - enable Manage existing user account (if any), enable eDirectory credentials, disable Volatile user
- Enable "Cache User Configuration" - Applied Settings Types - Enable User Configuration - Enable Computer Configuration - Enable Security Settings - Defined Group Policy- User Configuration->Start Menu and Taskbar - Enable "Remove Help menu from Start Menu"
2. Login with a user, the DLU gets created an the Group Policy files are getting cached. 3. Reboot the workstation and log in locally, with that user that had the Group Policy assigned, Group Policy is taken effect, help menu disappeared from the Start Menu 4. Reboot the workstation and login only locally again
