Overview. You need great training to make the most of your solutions. However, there may not be any training offered nearby. If you want all the benefits of classroom training without the expense of travel, check out online training.
Benefits of online training
Online training offers remote students all the benefits of a classroom experience without the expense of travel, including:
Live instructors: Your instructor isn't a recording; it's a live person teaching the class remotely.
Real-time interaction: You can raise your hand to ask questions, request additional explanations, and even chat with fellow students during your class.
Labs and exercises: You get to use virtual servers and images to actually do the labs and exercises, just like in a real class.video demonstrations. Select courses will feature quizzes, simulations, hands-on labs and much more.
Reduced cost: Because we don't have to ship equipment or print manuals, we can pass the savings onto you.
What can I expect
Online classes are much like our physical classes. Approximately half of the class is devoted to lecture, and the other half is devoted to hands-on labs. After a section of the class is completed, students are divided into virtual rooms where they have access to the same machines hosted in the training rooms to do exercises and labs. Because online classes are real-time events, they have set start and stop times, so please pay attention to the time zone in which the class is taught. Classes may also take small breaks or even meal breaks, depending on the length of the class.
Classes are taught using a Java-based virtual environment created by Elluminate. When the Elluminate window opens, students see not only the slides and a white board, but also a list of other participants. The instructor has the ability to write on slides, and students can "raise their hands" when they have questions, allowing the teacher to answer questions and receive feedback. You can also engage in chats with fellow students. Besides the general classroom session, interested students can move to a private room to discuss issues for a specific vertical or area of interest. With a microphone and VoIP, you can actually talk to your instructor and fellow students in real time too.
The online session link and manuals are e-mailed to students before the start of the class, so it is very important you provide a valid e-mail address when registering. All manuals are available in PDF format.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What are the minimum physical or technical requirements I need for online training?
A: Elluminate has published all the requirements for supported operating systems at their website.
Q: Is there a page that will make me familiar with the Elluminate tool setup?
A: You can find information about the Elluminate tool at the Elluminate website.
Q: What is the difference between online training and on-demand training?
A: Online training is a training class with a remote instructor teaching remote students in a real-time, virtual classroom. With on-demand training, you can listen to the recorded instructor anytime and anywhere you have an Internet connection, but it does not provide interaction.
Q: Do I need a microphone to participate?
A: A microphone can come in handy and is convenient, but it is not necessary. You will be able to use the built-in chat functionality for text-based communication if no microphone is present.
Q: Do I need to open additional ports in my firewall to connect to the Elluminate session?
A: Elluminate uses ports 80 and 2187 for communication. You can find out more from the Elluminate Access Guide.
Q: How do I configure Elluminate to use proxy settings if my machine is running behind a proxy server?
A: Proxy settings may vary, but Elluminate has published a detailed Access Guide that will help you configure your setting. You can find out more from the Elluminate Access Guide.
