  • Messaging client available on Linux and Windows; works in conjunction with the open source Pidgin project

  • Instant messaging and chat during meetings

  • Presence indicators in Novell Teaming to show who is available to meet

  • Application and desktop sharing to facilitate demonstrations for all team members

  • Whiteboarding to allow team members to brainstorm and draw out their ideas

  • Voice support that includes Voice over IP so that team members can talk to each other using a soft phone on their workstations

2.0 Conferencing Installation Instructions

System requirements and installation instructions are available in the Conferencing 1.0 Server Installation Guide on the Novell Teaming + Conferencing 1.0 Documentation Web site.

2.1 Changing the Conferencing Server Language

The Conferencing server uses the system language by default. To use a different language, add the line export ZONLANG=language-code to file /etc/sysconfig/imidio_iic. After this setting is added, restart the Conferencing services from a console window as follows:

cd /opt/iic/conf
./control-services.sh stop
./control-services.sh start

E-mails sent by the server are defined by template files located in /opt/iic/conf. The default versions of these files are in English; to use another language, copy the files from /opt/iic/locale/language-code/emails/*.txt to /opt/iic/conf.

Similarly, the HTML files used to display meeting invitations are located in /usr/local/apache2/htdocs/imidio/invite. Copy the files under /opt/iic/locale/language-code/web/invite/*.html to /usr/local/apache2/htdocs/imidio/invite/*.html.

3.0 Known Conferencing Issues

3.1 Millions of Colors Required for Linux Desktop Color Depth

The desktop share viewer cannot establish a connection to the Conferencing server if the color depth is set lower on a Linux desktop.

3.2 Server Address Required for Linux Client

By default, if you are using the Linux Conferencing client, users must specify the address of the Conferencing server the first time they log in, for example:

hostname.Internet_domain_name.com

To prevent this, you can rebuild the client RPM using the Conferencing Package Kit so that the client RPM that users download contains the right server name for your system.

3.3 Log Out / Log In Required to Change Client Interface Language

If you change your interface language on the Languages tab in the Preferences dialog, you must log out and log back in again before Conferencing responds to the change.

3.4 New Mute Microphone Check Box

Since finalization of the Conferencing 1.0 User Guide, a Mute Microphone checked has been added to the PC Phone panel. Select this option to mute your microphone locally. This is similar to using the Mute button on your phone. It does not affect the mute setting on the Conferencing bridge and meeting participants cannot see that you are muted.

3.5 Second Community Created Automatically

In “Adding Communities” in the Conferencing 1.0 Operations Guide, you are instructed to manually add a second community in addition to the default System Community. This is not necessary. A second community is created automatically to accommodate LDAP synchronization.
