Software Scanning Preferences

You configure the software scanning at the managed workstations by specifying the software scan options in the Software List Editor and Software Scan Policy.

Software List Editor

You can add new applications to the list of software that will be scanned at the managed workstations. To add a new application, you must provide the details of the application using the Software List Editor. The applications that you add are listed in the Software Scan Policy window.

You select the applications to be scanned or specify new applications for scanning when you configure the Inventory Policy.

By default, the Software List Editor contains descriptions of up to 8,000 software applications. The Software List Editor maintains the list of applications with their details in a text file (LDAPPL.INI). This file can contain as many as 10,000 application entries.

Use the Software List Editor to modify the settings in the LDAPPL.INI file. Do not edit this file manually.

Software Scan Policy

The Software Scan Policy customizes the software scanning of applications at the workstations, which are associated with the policy package.

The Software Scan Policy displays the list of applications that will be scanned based on the applications that you selected in the Software List Editor. You can modify the list of applications and view the details of each application.

Unlike the Software List Editor, the Software Scan Policy does not modify the LDAPPL.INI file.

You can customize software scanning in the following ways:
