The current version of ZENworksTM includes both the legacy hard-coded Novell® policies and the newer extensible policy feature. Managing the Novell policies and extensible policies includes the following functions:
You can view the effective policies for User and Workstation objects. In NetWare Administrator, right-click a User, User Group, Workstation, Workstation Group, or Container object containing the policy you want to enable, disable, or modify > click Details > Associated Policy Packages. The list can contain one or more policy packages. Select the policy package > click Details. The policies available in this policy package are displayed. Click a policy to enable or disable the policy. The policy is enable if the box is checked. To modify an enabled policy, select the policy > click Details. Make the changes > click OK. You can enable, disable, or modify a policy in a policy package, as your Workstation Management needs change. No policies are enabled before you create a policy package. Once a policy is enabled, some initial settings may be in place. To view samples of the initial settings, see Policy Samples Appendix. A policy can be enabled anytime, or it can be changed from within most of the lists in which it is displayed. You can also enable a policy when creating a policy package. In NetWare Administrator, right-click a User or Workstation Package > click Details > Policies. Right-click a policy package > click Details > Policy Schedule. If the policy has N/A in the Schedule column, you cannot independently change the schedule for that policy. Edit a type in the Schedule field. Use one of the following options to modify the policy schedule or to override the default policy package schedule: To have an independent schedule for the policy, you must replace Default Package Schedule in the Schedule field with one of the above types. When you return to the Policies page, verify that the policy schedule you set is displayed under the Schedule column. If LAN traffic is unacceptable after you create and associate policy packages with objects, you can reduce LAN traffic by limiting how the system searches the tree for associations between policy packages and objects. In NetWare Administrator, select a Container object for the Container policy > click Object > Create > Policy Package > OK. In the Policy Package Wizard, click Container Package > Next > complete the steps in the Wizard. Right-click the Container Package > click Details. Click Search Policy (make sure the box is checked). Select the Search policy > click Details > Search Level. Set the Search For Policies Up To field to Partition > click OK. This limits how many directory levels are searched in for associations between policy packages and objects. Click the Associations page > associate this Container Policy Package to the Container object where you want to make the Search Policy effective. The Search policy affects all containers below the associated container.Viewing Effective Policies
