4.4 Installing and Configuring the Novell Business Continuity Clustering Software

It is necessary to run the Novell Business Continuity Clustering installation program when you want to:

IMPORTANT:Before you begin, make sure your setup meets the requirements specified in Section 4.1, Requirements for BCC 1.2 for OES 2 SP1 Linux. The BCC Administrator user and group must already be configured as specified in Section 4.3, Configuring a BCC Administrator User and Group.

You must install the Business Continuity Clustering engine software on each cluster node in each of the peer clusters that will be part of a business continuity cluster. You install the software on the nodes of one cluster at a time.

Perform the following tasks in every peer cluster that you want to include in the business continuity cluster:

4.4.1 Installing the Business Continuity Clustering RPMs

Perform the following tasks for each of the nodes in every peer cluster:

  1. Log in to the server as the root user.

  2. Set up the Business Continuity Clustering ISO file as an installation source.

    1. Copy the Business Continuity Clustering ISO file that you downloaded in Section 4.2, Downloading the Business Continuity Clustering Software to a local directory.

If you use a CD or the HTTP method, modify the following steps as needed.

    2. Use one of the following methods to open the Add-On Product page.

      • In YaST, select Software > Installation Source, then click Add.

      • At a terminal console prompt, enter

        yast2 add-on

    3. On the Add-On Product Media page, select Local, then click Next.

    4. Select ISO Image, then browse to locate and select the file, click Open, then click Next.

    5. Read the Business Continuity Clustering License Agreement, click Yes to accept it, then click Next.

When the installation source is added, it appears in the list on the Add-On Product Media page.

    6. On the Add-Product Media page, click Finish.

The new installation source is synchronized with the Software Updater. The Software Updater icon in the Notification area indicates that updates are ready.

  3. In YaST, select Software > Software Manager, search for BCC, select the three .rpm files, then click Accept to install the packages.

    • novell-business-continuity-cluster.rpm
    • novell-business-continuity-cluster-idm.rpm
    • yast-novell-bcc.rpm

You can also double-click the Software Updater icon in the Notification area, then select the BCC .rpm files.

  4. After the packages are installed, exit YaST.

  5. Continue with Section 4.4.2, Configuring BCC Software.

4.4.2 Configuring BCC Software

Perform the following tasks for each of the nodes in every peer cluster:

  1. Log in as the root user on the server.

  2. Use one of the following methods to open the BCC Configuration page:

    • In YaST, select Miscellaneous > Novell-BCC.

    • At a terminal console prompt, enter

      yast2 novell-bcc

  3. When prompted to Install Core Business Continuity Clustering Software and Configure Core Software, click Yes to install and configure the BCC software.

  4. Click Continue if you are prompted to configure LDAP.

  5. In the eDirectory Tree dialog box, specify the eDirectory Administrator user password that you used when you installed the operating system, then click OK.

  6. Specify the typeful fully distinguished eDirectory name for the cluster where the server is currently a member.

  7. Select Start BCC services now to start the software immediately following the configuration process.

If you deselect the check box, you must manually start BCC services later by entering the following at the terminal console prompt:

    rcnovell-bcc start

  8. Specify the Directory Server Address by selecting the IP addresses of the master eDirectory server and the local server.

  9. Accept or change the eDirectory Administrator user name and specify the Administrator user’s password.

  10. Click Next.

  11. Review your setup on the Novell Business Continuity Clustering Configuration Summary page, then click Next to install the BCC software.

  12. Click Finish to save the BCC configuration and exit the tool.

  13. Verify that the BCC software is running on the server by entering the following at a terminal console prompt:

    rcnovell-bcc status

  14. Continue with Section 4.4.3, Installing the BCC Identity Manager Templates.

4.4.3 Installing the BCC Identity Manager Templates

The Identity Manager management templates for Business Continuity Clustering consist of XML templates for the eDirectory driver that are used for synchronizing objects between peer clusters. The templates are required to configure your business continuity cluster. You must have previously installed iManager on the server where you plan to install the templates.

You should install the management templates on the same server where you installed the Identity Manager Management utilities. For information, see Section 4.1.7, Identity Manager 3.6 Bundle Edition.

IMPORTANT:If you have not already done so, install the BCC RPMs on this server as described in Section 4.4.1, Installing the Business Continuity Clustering RPMs.

Perform the following tasks on the iManager server in each tree that belongs to the business continuity cluster:

  1. Log in as the root user on the server.

  2. Use one of the following methods to open the BCC Configuration page:

    • In YaST, select Miscellaneous > Novell-BCC.

    • At a terminal console prompt, enter

      yast2 novell-bcc

  3. When prompted, deselect the Install Core Business Continuity Clustering Software and Configure Core Software option and select the Install Identity Manager Templates option, then click Next.

Selecting the Install Identity Manager Templates option installs the iManager plug-ins on this Linux server.
