Installing iManager and eGuide Program Files

iManager and eGuide program files will be installed on your Web server. If you don't have a Web server set up already, the installation program will install Apache and Tomcat as well as iManager and eGuide. Use the Web Applications CD to install iManager and eGuide program files.


System Requirements

For the lab implementation, we document iManager and eGuide installations on Windows. Both of these provisioning tools can be installed on other platforms as well. Installation instructions for platforms other than Windows are available at the iManager Documentation Web site and the eGuide Documentation Web site.

The following are the minimum system requirements for running eGuide and iManager:

Web Server

  • Apache 1.3 (tested and recommended on all platforms)

    An existing IIS installation will prevent the Web Apps install from installing Apache and Tomcat. You'll need to uninstall IIS if you want to install Apache and Tomcat.

Web Application Server

Tomcat 3.2 (tested and recommended) or any Web application server that supports the 2.2 Java* Servlet Specification

Java Virtual Machine (JVM*)

Version 1.3 or later (1.3.1 recommended)

LDAP Directory

  • Supports LDAP v3
  • Uses clear text passwords for clear text connections

Browser for eGuide Administration Utility and for iManager

  • Netscape* 6.2 or later
  • Internet Explorer 5.5 or later

Browser for eGuide Client

  • Netscape 4.78 or later (6.2 recommended)
  • Internet Explorer 5.0 or later (5.5 recommended)


Installation

The Web Applications installation is an umbrella installation; it chains together the installation programs for each of the Web components you need in order to manage Novell Nsure Resources.

If you don't have a Web server installed, you'll see three installation programs: the Web server installation, iManager installation, and eGuide installation. If you already have a Web server installed, you'll see two installation programs: iManager installation and eGuide installation.

To install Web applications:

  1. If you already have a Web server running, stop it before starting the installation.

  2. At your Web server, insert the Web Applications CD.

  3. At the eDirectory Web Applications Welcome page, select a language for the Web Applications installation, then click OK.

  4. Read the Introduction, then click Next.

  5. Read the License Agreement, mark I Accept, then click Next.

  6. At the Select Web Applications dialog box, select both iManager and eGuide, then click Next.

  7. Review the information on the Selected Applications page, then click Install.

  8. At the iManager Welcome page, select a language for the iManager installation, then click OK.

  9. Read the introduction, then click Next.

  10. At the Detection Summary page, click Next.

    You might need to resolve port conflicts. Be aware of port usage by other services, such as iMonitor.

  11. Select an install location, then click Next.

  12. At the Pre-Installation Summary, click Install to install iManager files.

    This installation may take a few minutes.

  13. To complete iManager installation and launch the eGuide installation, review the summary, then click Done.

  14. Select a language for the eGuide installation, then click OK.

  15. Read the Important Information page, then click Next.

  16. Select an install location and click Next.

  17. Review the Pre-Installation Summary and click Install.

    eGuide files are installed.

  18. At the Install Complete page, click Done, and then click Done again to complete the installation of both eGuide and iManager.

  19. Close the Help page and continue with the next section, Installing Configuration Files for DirXML Drivers .

    If prompted for a system reboot, click No to decline.
