Novell GroupWise Mobile Server 3 for Linux, Powered by Intellisync

1.0 Overview

With Novell® GroupWise® Mobile Server for Linux, you can synchronize e-mail messages and other personal information manager (PIM) data from your GroupWise mailbox to supported mobile devices.

GroupWise Mobile Server for Linux includes the following modules from Intellisync* Mobile Suite:

  • Intellisync Wireless Email with the GroupWise Connector

  • Intellisync Mobile Gateway

  • Intellisync Secure Gateway

  • Synchronization software for supported devices

Enhancements for GroupWise Mobile Server 3 include:

  • Substantially faster push of data to your device

  • Significantly increased battery life

Some Intellisync Mobile Suite modules are not included in GroupWise Mobile Server 3. For supported devices and module details, see the GroupWise Mobile Server 3 Getting Started Guide on the GroupWise Mobility Documentation Web site.

2.0 Installing GroupWise Mobile Server for Linux

2.1 Installing GroupWise Mobile Server

  1. If the server where you are planning to install GroupWise Mobile Server has Apache* and Tomcat running on it, you must stop them before installing GroupWise Mobile Server.

    The Secure Gateway Module of GroupWise Mobile Server automatically uses the same port numbers that Apache is configured with.. Initially, the Secure Gateway is installed on the same server where you perform the GroupWise Mobile Server installation, but it can be installed later on additional Linux* servers. For detailed installation instructions, see the GroupWise Mobile Server 3 Getting Started Guide and the Intellisync Mobile Suite Installation Guide on the GroupWise Mobile Server 3 Documentation Web site.

    If you want to continue to run Apache and Tomcat on the same server where you are installing GroupWise Mobile Server, some post-installation reconfiguration is required. For detailed installation instructions, see the GroupWise Mobile Server 3 Getting Started Guide and the Intellisync Mobile Suite Installation Guide on the GroupWise Mobile Server 3 Documentation Web site.

  2. Download the GroupWise Mobile Server 3.0.1 for Linux compressed tar file (gms301_linux.tar.gz) from the Novell Downloads Web site to a temporary directory on your Linux server.

  3. In a terminal window, change to the temporary directory, then use the following command to extract the gms301_linux.tar.gz file into the temporary directory:

    tar -xvzf gms301_linux.tar.gz

  4. Become root by entering su - and the root password.

  5. Change to the gms301_linux directory:

    cd gms301_linux

  6. To start the installer, enter the following command:

    sh ims.bin

  7. Follow the on-screen instructions to install GroupWise Mobile Server 3 for Linux.

2.2 Installing the Palm OS Patch

  1. If the server where you are planning to install the Palm* OS* Patch has Apache and Tomcat running on it, you must stop them before installing the Palm OS Patch.

  2. Create a backup of opt/ims/lib/pim/pim.jar by copying the file to another location on your server.

  3. In the temporary directory where you downloaded GroupWise Mobile Server 3.0.1, change to the PalmOSClientPatch/lib/pim directory.

  4. Copy the pim.jar file to the /opt/ims/lib/pim directory on your server.

2.3 Installing Symbian Client Patch

  1. If the server where you are planning to install the Symbian* Client Patch has Apache and Tomcat running on it, you must stop them before installing the Symbian Client Patch.

  2. In the /opt/ims/clientinstalls/SyncClient directory create a backup of the *.xml files and the Symbian60V30, Symbian60V31, and Symbian60V32 directories.

  3. In the temporary directory where you downloaded GroupWise Mobile Server 3.0.1, change to the SymbianClientPatch/ClientInstalls/SyncClient directory.

  4. Copy the *.xml files and the Symbian60V30, Symbian60V31, and Symbian60V32 directories to the /opt/ims/clientinstalls/SyncClient directory on your server.

3.0 Client Installation Instructions for Mobile Devices

For information about installing the GroupWise Mobile Server client software on mobile devices, see the device-specific Client Guides on the GroupWise Mobile Server 3 Documentation Web site. Use the GroupWise Mobile Server machine URL and your GroupWise username and password to log in from your mobile device to install the client software.

4.0 Known Issues

4.1 Intellisync Mobile Suite Issues

4.2 Duplicate Notes when Resetting an Account on a Symbian Device

When a user already has previous information syncronized with their device selecting the Reset Account option may cause the user Notes to duplicate.

4.3 What To Sync Window on WinMobile Devices Does Not Display

For all WinMobile devices, when you select What To Sync in Intellisync > Settings on your mobile device, no options are displayed. Select Done to display a screen where you can synchronize according to current settings. Select Settings to display a screen where you can change synchronization settings.

The missing settings are still accessible from the Web PIM and should be used if the settings need to be changed. For more information on using the Web PIM, see the GroupWise Mobile Server 3 Getting Started Guide on the GroupWise Mobility Documentation Web site.
