1.2 Installing SLES 10 SP2

  1. To start the installation, insert the media into your CD or DVD drive, then boot your VM from the SLES 10 SP2 CD or DVD.

    or

    From your VM, mount the ISO image.

  2. At the boot screen, select Installation, then press Enter.

  3. Continue with Installation Information to complete the installation.

1.2.1 Installation Information

The information in the following table is listed in the order of the installation flow. SLES information that is specific to the Resource Kit is marked with an asterisk (*) in the Installation Information column.

Select the language you want the server to display when being used.

Installation Mode

The only option that is available is New Installation, because you are creating a new server.

Clock and Time Zone

Time synchronization is important for eDirectory™ and Identity Manager. Verify that this information is correct for your environment.

During installation, the Region and Time Zone are preselected according to the selected installation language.

Region: Select your region.

Time Zone: Select your time zone.

Hardware Clock Set To: Set the hardware clock to UTC time or to the local time.

The selection depends on how the BIOS hardware clock is set on your machine. If it is set to GMT, which corresponds to UTC, your system can rely on SUSE Linux Enterprise to automatically switch from standard time to daylight saving time and back.

Time and Date: Set the correct time and date.

*Installation Settings

The page allows you to change settings.

Keyboard Layout: The keyboard layout setting is already set. The keyboard layout is determined by the language selection. If you want to change the setting, click the heading.

*Partitioning: Allows you to partition the hard disk space for use with the SLES server. You should select Base Partition Setup on This Proposal, to allow you to change the file system type of the root (/) partition from Reiser to Ext3.

*Software: Allows you install additional software to the server in order to add features. For the Resource Kit, there are two additional software options that are installed:

  • C/C++ Compiler and Tools is located under the Development heading.

  • kernel-source is located under Details. Set the Filter to Search.

Language: Allows you to change the primary language.
