Now that you have an understanding of the tools available, you should choose the best installation methods for your network. To simplify the decision of what processes to use, refer to the decision tree in Figure 4-7 or Figure 4-8. Each possible installation method is listed as a part of the tree.
If you have a complex network, you might need to refer to the decision tree multiple times to decide which installation type is right for different segments of the network. For example, you might have workstations that connect to the network through a NetWare® server and workstations that access only a corporate Web server. You might have deployed the Novell Client previously with the Update Agent configured to some workstations and not to others.
It is important to note that if your network has workstations that have different requirements, the steps that you ultimately take to deploy the Novell Client might be very similar or the same. The decision trees can help you to understand the specific steps needed in each case.
The following decision trees explain options for a network installation of the Novell Client or Support Pack update (Figure 4-7) or a Web installation of the Novell Client (Figure 4-8).

The following are network installation options as described in the Novell Client installation decision tree (Figure 4-7).
The following is the procedure required to complete the default installation of the Novell Client on workstations that already have Novell Client installed with the Update Agent configured and that have a connection to the network.
The following is the procedure required to complete a custom installation of the Novell Client on workstations that already have Novell Client installed with the Update Agent configured and that have a connection to the network.
HINT:Before you set up a custom install, consider which options you want users to see during installation. You can make the necessary modifications to the corresponding configuration files while making other custom install changes.
The following is the procedure required to complete the default update of the Novell Client on workstations that already have the Novell Client installed without the Update Agent configured, but with a connection to the network.
The following is the procedure required to complete the custom update of the Novell Client on workstations that already have the Novell Client installed without the Update Agent configured but with a connection to the network.
HINT:Before you set up a custom install, consider which options you want users to see during installation. You can make the necessary modifications to the corresponding configuration files while making other custom install changes.
The following is the procedure required to complete the default installation of the Novell Client on workstations that do not have the Novell Client installed but do have a connection to the network.
The following is the procedure required to complete the custom installation of the Novell Client on workstations that do not have the Novell Client installed but do have a connection to the network.

The following are Web server installation options as described in the Novell Client Installation Decision Tree (Figure 4-8).
The following is the procedure required to complete the default Web server upgrade of the Novell Client on workstations that already have the Novell Client installed with the Update Agent configured.
The following is the procedure required to complete the custom Web server upgrade of the Novell Client on workstations that already have the Novell Client installed with the Update Agent configured.

The following is the procedure required to complete the default Web server installation of the Novell Client Support Pack on workstations that already have the Novell Client installed.
