3.10 (Optional) Setting Up Email Communication with the Filr VM

The hands-on exercises leverage two of your personal email addresses:

If you are not interested in email notifications or external sharing as part of the end user exercises, you can skip all of the remaining sections and steps in this guide that are marked (Email Only).

If you want to experiment with email notifications that originate from Filr, you must complete the following sections:

3.10.1 (Email Only) Configuring the Host Workstation to Recognize Filr’s DNS Name

  1. On the VMware host workstation, open Windows Explorer and ensure that the file toolbar is displayed. If it’s not displayed, press F10.

  2. Click Tools > Folder Options.

  3. Click the View tab, then click Show hidden files, folders, and drives > Apply > OK.

  4. Navigate to Windows > System 32 > drivers > etc, then right-click the hosts file and select Properties.

  5. Click the Security tab.

  6. Select your user name, then Edit the permissions and assign yourself Full Control of the hosts file.

  7. Click OK.

  8. Right-click the hosts file and open it in a text editor, such as Notepad, then add the following line:

    192.168.1.110 filr.filr-lab.example.com.

  9. Save and close the file.

3.10.2 (Email Only) Entering an Email Address for User red

  1. Go to Section A.2.6, Accessing iManager, complete the instructions in that section and in Section A.2.7, Enabling Pop-Ups for iManager, then return here.

  2. Ensure that the Roles and Tasks icon Roles and Tasks icon is selected.

  3. In the left panel, click Users > Modify User.

  4. Click the Browse icon Browse icon next to the Username field.

  5. Click the Search tab.

  6. In the Search for objects named field, type red, then click Search.

  7. Under Results, click the link for user red.

  8. Click OK.

  9. Click the plus icon next to the Internet E-mail address field.

  10. Type the email address you have chosen to use with these exercises, for example myusername@examplemail.com.

  11. Click OK > Apply > OK, then close iManager.

3.10.3 (Email Only) Synchronizing red’s Change with Filr

  1. Using your administrative browser, access Filr through the following URL:

    https://192.168.1.110:8443

  2. Sign in as User: admin with Password: novellfilr.

  3. Click admin (upper right), then select Administration Console.

  4. Under System, click LDAP.

  5. Click Run Immediately.

  6. Click Apply.

    User red’s profile is modified.

  7. Continue with Section 4.0, Filr Hands-on End User Exercises.
