Integrating with Novell Application Launcher

If a user runs Novell Application Launcher^TM (ZENworks for Desktops), the desktop and thin-client applications will be displayed not only in the OnDemand Services Launch Item gadget but also in Application Launcher.

Users can launch the desktop applications from Application Launcher with no problems. However, before a thin-client application can be launched, the Novell DeFrame^TM client must be installed. Otherwise, the user will receive the following error:

Could not launch <appname> using c:\winnt\system32\dappx\dappx.exe...

To install the DeFrame client to a workstation you can do either of the following:

• Run the DeFrame Workstation Setup program (setup.exe). The Setup program is located in the deframe\wksetup directory on the Novell ZENworks OnDemand Services 2 CD.
• Use ZENworks for Desktops Application Management to distribute the DeFrame client to workstations. To do so, you need to use the snAppShot^TM utility to record the DeFrame client installation on a clean workstation, use the resulting .aot file to create an Application object, configure the Application object so that Application Launcher will automatically run it when the user logs in, and associate the Application object with the users you want it distributed to. Novell Application Launcher and Usage-Based Applications

Thin-client applications that have been enabled for usage tracking cannot be launched from Novell Application Launcher. Usage tracking of thin-client applications requires them to be launched from the OnDemand Services Launch Item gadget.

Desktop applications that have been enabled for usage tracking can be launched from Novell Application Launcher, but only after having been launched from the OnDemand Services Launch Item gadget.
