C.3 Mounting a Remote NSS Volume with the Novell Client for Linux

You use the Novell Client for Linux to log in to the remote server. This mounts the remote NSS volume on the DST server. If there are multiple NSS volumes on the remote server, you need to log in only one time. Ensure that the login user name is assigned as a trustee and given the Supervisor right for each of those volumes. You can log in to multiple remote servers by using the same user name or a different user name for each server.

  1. Log in to the DST server as the root user, then open a terminal console.

  2. Open the Novell Client for Linux by entering

    nwlogin

  3. Log in to the remote server by providing the following information in response to the prompts:

    Parameter

    Action

    Sample Value

    Tree

    Enter the tree name.

    EAST_TREE

    Server

Enter the IP address or hostname of the remote server.

If the remote volume is on a shared pool, enter the IP address of the pool cluster resource. This can create an oddly named file in the mount point that is a shortened version of the cluster virtual NCP servername.

    10.10.10.41

    server41

    User Name

Enter the eDirectory user name of a user that is a file system trustee of the remote volume with the Supervisor right.

    dstuser

    Context

Enter the context of the specified login user.

    users.boston.novell

    Password

Enter the password of the specified login user.

    password

On successful login, the response is:

    Logged in

  4. After a successful login, verify that the volume was successfully mounted by navigating to the default mount location for the volume.

The remote NSS volume is mounted by default on the DST server at

    /var/opt/novell/nclmnt/.Servers/<remote_servername>/<remote_volumename>

    For example:

    /var/opt/novell/nclmnt/.Servers/SERVER41/DSTVOL1

  5. Do one of the following:
