Archive and Versioning Services provide a convenient and cost-effective way for individual users to instantly restore previous versions of modified, renamed, or deleted files. Interval-based file versions are archived and presented for restoration based on the date of the file change or the user who modified the files. To restore a file, users simply view a list of the archived file versions and select the version they want.
The setup process varies slightly between NetWare and OES 2, but there are no functional differences.
Before upgrading, make sure to do the following:
Install an NSS volume on the OES 2 server.
Make sure the Archive server and the Primary volume reside in the same eDirectory™ tree.
Make sure the Archive server, PostgreSQL database, and Archive volume are installed on the same machine.
Table 8-1 Archive and Versioning Source and Target Server Requirements
Source Server |
Target Server |
---|---|

The Novell Archive and Versioning Services pattern is installed but not configured. |

The Archive volume, configuration file, and the database are moved as part of the process. |
If a configuration exists on the target server, it is overwritten regardless of the migration type.
You can use either of the two migration types offered by the Migration Tool to transfer Archive and Versioning Services from NetWare to OES 2:
Consolidate: Only consolidation on the same tree is supported. For more information, see Section A.1.1, Consolidating Selected Data or Services.
Transfer ID: You can transfer an entire NetWare server, including Novell Archive and Versioning Services, to an OES 2 SP3 server. Transfer ID migrations must occur within in the same tree. For more information, see Section A.1.2, Transferring an Entire NetWare Server.
To upgrade Novell Archive and Versioning Services from NetWare to OES 2, follow the instructions in Migrating Novell Archive and Version Services to OES 2 SP3 Linux
in the OES 2 SP3: Migration Tool Administration Guide.
Before restarting the Archive server, be sure to complete the steps in Verifying Migration
in the OES 2 SP3: Migration Tool Administration Guide.
