Additional Linux Screens in the Server Consolidation Utility

When you drop a volume or folder onto an OES Linux server in the destination pane of the Server Consolidation Utility, additional screens appear during the Verification Wizard portion of the utility. These screens prompt you for information that facilitates the Linux enabling of your eDirectory users if you have not already done so.

  1. Launch the Server Consolidation Utility and proceed through the modeling and verification of your consolidation project as instructed in previous chapters.

Be sure to resolve any critical errors that are identified during the pre-copy verification.

  2. Click Project > Verify and Copy Data on the Server Consolidation Utility toolbar, or click the Do the Consolidation button on the toolbar, and then click Next.

Proceed through the Verification Wizard as instucted in previous chapters of this guide.

Toward the end of the Verification Wizard, the Migration Linux-enablement Group Location screen is displayed.

  3. Do one of the following:

    • If you have already Linux enabled the necessary eDirectory users, click the Skip Linux Enablement box and then click Next. Skip the rest of these steps and proceed with the data copy.
    • Click Browse to select an eDirectory container where you want the Linux Enablement Groups to be created or where they already exist. Continue with Step 4.

After the consolidation project is completed, you can run a nambulkadd command that creates an eDirectory Group object, named server_name-LUMGroup, for each OES Linux destination server that you have targeted for data consolidation in your project.

  4. Click Next.

The Linux Enable Users by Container screen is displayed.

You can select containers for the Server Consolidation Utility to scan for User objects. All users in the containers you select, and in all subordinate containers, are added to the list of users to be Linux enabled.

Click Add to browse to and select a container. Or select a container and click Delete to remove it from the list.

  5. Click Next.

The Linux Enable Specific Users screen is displayed.

You can select individual users to be Linux enabled that are not included in any of the containers you selected in the previous screen. The User objects you select here are added to the list of users to be Linux enabled, in addition to users in the selected containers.

Click Add to browse to and select a user. Or select a user and click Delete to remove it from the list

  6. Click Next to proceed with the consolidation project.

When the file copy process begins, the Server Consolidation Utility searches the selected containers in the source eDirectory tree for users to add to the Linux enablement list. Any User objects found are added to a file named project_name-userlist.txt. All individually selected users are also added to this file.

If your consolidation project is copying data between eDirectory trees, all of the User objects that you match up from the source tree to the destination tree are added to the userlist file as well.

The SCU also creates a file named project_name-grouplist.txt for each destination OES Linux server.

At the conclusion of the file copy process, the eDirectory User Linux Enablement Directions screen appears, displaying information you need to run the nambulkadd command on your destination Linux servers.

Record this information for later reference. The filenames and paths are also written to the project's success log file.
