11.0 Protocols and ESN

The components in a ESN deployment use a number of different protocols to communicate and provide ESN services, as shown in Figure 11-1. The optional internal firewall is shown to facilitate the illustration of a separate (and also optional) DMZ network.

Workstations and devices running ESN software access ESN using REST protocols that facilitate authentication and other access requests.

Browsers use HTTPS to communicate with ESN.

ESN communicates with Micro Focus file servers using NetWare Core Protocol (NCP) requests.

ESN communicates with Windows servers using the Common Internet File System (CIFS) protocol.

Other system protocols handle communication between ESN and the MySQL and Search appliances.
