4.2 Restoring the Image

4.2.1 Restoring the Image on the Same Device Whose Image was Taken

If you have taken an image of a device that has the ZDM 7.x and the ZENworks Agent with Asset Management installed, perform the following tasks to restore the image on the same device:

  1. Ensure that the image is taken as described in Section 4.1, Taking an Image of a Device that has the ZDM 7.x Agent and the ZENworks Agent with Asset Management Installed.

  2. Launch ConsoleOne on the ZDM 7.x server.

  3. Create an imaging object with the path of the image of the managed device taken in Step 2.

  4. Go to the managed device’s properties page, select the Restore Image option, and assign the image object you created in Step 3.

  5. Reboot the managed device in the PXE mode.

The image is restored to the device. After the image is restored, the ISD data and the GUID of the device remain unchanged, and the device can communicate to both the ZDM 7.x and ZENworks Configuration Management servers.

4.2.2 Restoring the Image to Another Device that Has Only the ZDM 7.x Agent Installed

  4. Go to the Properties page on the device that has only the ZDM 7.x Agent installed, and on which you want to restore the image.

  5. Select the Restore Image option, and assign the image object you created in Step 3.

  6. Reboot the managed device on which you want to restore the image in the PXE mode.

The image is successfully restored to the device. After the image is restored, the ISD data and GUID of the device remain unchanged, and the device can communicate to both the ZDM 7.x server and the ZENworks Configuration Management server.

In ZENworks Control Center, a new object is created within the Workstation folder of the Devices tab. The GUID of the object is same as that in the ISD.

4.2.3 Restoring the Image to a Non-Registered Device

If you have taken an image of a device that has the ZDM 7.x agent and ZENworks Agent with Asset Management installed, you can restore the image to a non-registered device that has non-registered device settings configured.

  4. Click Server Package > Imaging Server Policy > Image Safe Data.

  5. Configure the non-registered device settings.

  6. Create a hardware rule, and assign the image object created in Step 3.

  7. Reboot the non-registered device in the PXE mode.

The image is restored to the non-registered device.

The device is registered to the ZDM 7.x server, and a new object is created in ConsoleOne. The device is also registered to the ZENworks Configuration Management server, and a new object is created in ZENworks Control Center (Devices tab > Workstation folder).

  8. In ZENworks Control Center, click the Devices tab > the Workstation folder.

  9. Delete the workstation object created in Step 7.

  10. Boot the device that is imaged, and run the following command:

    zac fsg –d

  11. Reboot the device.

The device's DeviceGUID is same as the GUID with which it is registered with ZDM 7.xserver.
