Make sure you have done the following to prepare the ZENworks 6.5 or 7 servers that you have targeted for upgrading to version 7 with SP1:
Review the ZENworks 7 Desktop Management with Support Pack 1 Readme on the ZENworks 7 Documentation Web site for any last-minute information concerning upgrading.
Make sure you have fulfilled all of the upgrade requirements listed in Section II, Preparation.
Extend the schema to ZENworks 7 Desktop Management with SP1 in the tree where objects for the servers you are upgrading reside.
For information on extending the schema, see Section 29.3, Extending the eDirectory Schema.
Determine the variables that are used by the CPKs so that you can define them on your target Subscriber servers.
See Step 4 for instructions on how to gather this information.
To prepare for upgrading by using Distributions, do the following:
SP1 Distributor:
Maked sure you have a ZENworks 7 Server Management with SP1 Distributor server because the Distributor is used to distribute the Software Package Distributions that contain the CPKs. For information on upgrading Server Management components, see Upgrade
in the Novell ZENworks 7 Server Management Installation Guide.
SP1 Subscribers: The Subscriber software is required in order to extract and install the Software Package Distributions that contain your upgrade CPK content. Therefore, make sure that you have the ZENworks 7 Server Management with SP1 Subscriber software installed and running on the ZENworks 6.5 SP1 or 7 Desktop Management servers that you want to upgrade.
However, if you already have ZENworks 6.5 or 7 Server Management on NetWare and Windows servers, a best practice is to upgrade them to version 7 with SP1. For information on upgrading Server Management components, see Upgrade
in the Novell ZENworks 7 Server Management Installation Guide.
Functioning Tiered Electronic Distribution System: Make sure the ZENworks services are running on the Distributor and Subscriber servers so that they can send, receive, and extract the Software Package Distributions containing the .cpk files that are used to upgrade the server.
The ZENworks services are automatically stopped during the upgrade and restarted after the upgrade has finished.
To prepare for upgrading by using the Standalone Package Processor, if JRE 1.4.2 is not installed on the target Windows server, download the JRE from Sun* and install it.
