You can provide convenience for users who travel from site to site where you have replicated ZfD application objects using a TED distribution. Site lists can only be linked within the tree where the source application's object resides.
Review the following sections:
The ZfD properties page for an application object will have a Distributions tab once Policy and Distribution Services has been installed. There you can link up sites where the same application has been distributed.
The Distributions tab on this property page contains the following information:
Source Application: Lists the name of the application object that was used to create the current application object; otherwise, the field is blank.
Replicated Applications: Lists the ZfD application objects that have been replicated from the current application object using a Desktop Application Distribution. The listing is in a random order. The Link Up Site Lists button is used to link all of the listed application objects with each other.
Associated Distributions: Displays the Desktop Application Distributions associated with the current application object.
By linking Site Lists, you allow users who travel from site to site to have similar local access to their applications.
For example:
To further illustrate the concept of how site lists are linked, assume the following:
Original Application/Site | Replicated Applications/Sites |
---|---|
App1.SiteA |
App1.SiteB |
|
App1.SiteC |
Once you link the site lists, you have the following relationships:
Application/Site | Linked Applications/Sites |
---|---|
App1.SiteA |
App1.SiteB |
App1.SiteB |
App1.SiteA |
App1.SiteC |
App1.SiteA |
Therefore, no matter which site the user is visiting, the application will be available in the same way that the user is used to.
To link up Site Lists,
In ConsoleOne, right-click an application object > click Properties > click the Distributions tab.
Click the Link Up Site Lists button.
All replicated application objects listed in the Replicated Applications box are linked.
You can unlink individual items using the Unlink button on the application object's Fault Tolerance > Links tab.
The method for linking Site Lists described in these steps is faster than using the Link option on the Fault Tolerance > Links tab. The Link Up Site Lists button links up all site lists related to the current application, where the Link option requires browsing for application objects to link them one at a time.
Click OK when finished reviewing the linked site list.
Any time you replicate an application to another site using the Desktop Application type of Distribution, you can repeat this procedure to update the linked sites.
