Upgrading Remote Management

ZENworks for Servers 3 Remote Management is not backward compatible with ZfS 2 or ZfS 2 SP1 Remote Management. From a ZfS 3 Remote Management console, you cannot initiate a Remote Management session with a managed server on which the ZfS 2 or ZfS 2 SP1 Remote management Agent is installed. Similarly, from a ZfS 2 or ZfS 2 SP1 Remote Management console, you cannot initiate a Remote Management session with a managed server on which the ZfS 3 Remote Management Agent is installed.

Only from a ZfS 3 Remote Management console, you can initiate a Remote Management session with ZfS 3 Remote Management Agent.

Before you upgrade from ZfS 2 or ZfS 2 SP1 to ZfS 3 Remote Management, perform the following tasks:

• If you want to remotely control the existing ZfS managed servers, make sure that you have made at least one backup of the existing ConsoleOne.
• To understand the new ZfS 3 Remote Management features, see What 's New in Remote Management for Windows NT/2000 Servers .
• Make sure that the recommended ZfS 3 Remote Management system requirements are met. For more information, see Meeting Remote Management Requirements .
• Review the instructions in the Planning Your Installation section.

The ZfS 3 Remote Management installation program will automatically upgrade an existing ZfS 2 Remote Management to ZfS 3 Remote Management. For more information on how to install Remote Management, see Installing Remote Management on NetWare and Windows Servers .
