Synchronizing and Setting Passwords

The driver supports synchronizing encrypted passwords and setting or resetting clear-text passwords. Clear-text passwords will not be synchronized, but only set in the UNIX machine through the Subscriber channel. Synchronizing, setting, or resetting clear-text passwords works only for User objects on Files, NIS, and NIS+.

To configure clear-text passwords for users, refer Guidelines for Configuring Style Sheets.

Synchronizing Encrypted Passwords

An extra attribute is added to eDirectory to store encrypted passwords. The User's UNIX password is synchronized to this attribute. This attribute can be used to synchronize the encrypted password through other drivers' Subscriber channels to other machines. The users will be able to log in to the other machines by using the same password.

If no value is specified in the attribute, the user's account will be locked in the NIS database.

NOTE:   This encrypted password cannot be used for logging in to eDirectory.

We strongly recommend that you use SSL when this password functionality is used with the Remote Loader.

Setting and Resetting Clear-Text Passwords

Clear-text passwords can be made available to the driver as a default password in the Create Rule Transform style sheet. For more information, refer Create Rule Transform.
