DNS/DHCP
New Features
- You can select one, more than one, or all objects for deletion with the new multiselect delete feature provided in this release of the Novell® iManager browser-based DNS/DHCP management utility. Support for multiselect deletion is provided for the following types of objects:
- Subnet
- Subnet Pool
- Subnet Address Range
- Zone
- DNS Server
- DHCP Server
- While creating subnet address ranges, you can use the Add button to select a subnet address range from a list of available slots. The values from the selected range automatically fill up the Start and End address range fields in the Create Subnet Address Range window.
- This release of the Novell iManager browser-based DNS/DHCP management utility provides support for Pooled (Included) MAC addresses.
- While importing the DHCP configuration, a default subnet address range is automatically created. In this release of the Novell iManager browser-based DNS/DHCP management utility, you are no longer required to manually update the DHCP Server reference because this is done automatically.
Known Issues
- The Novell iManager browser-based DNS/DHCP management utility does not support the following:
- IPV6.INT zones
- Configuring DHCP Option 60
- This release supports the Start/Stop DNS/DHCP Server feature for a single server and not for multiple servers on a single tree.
- When you delete an A-type resource record in a forward zone, the corresponding PTR-type resource record, if it exists, is automatically deleted from the reverse (INT-ADDR.ARPA) zone. However, when you delete a PTR-type record in a reverse zone, occasionally its correponding A-type record in the forward zone is not automatically deleted. You must manually delete the latter.
Special Instructions
- For improved performance, configure the DNS/DHCP scope settings before you start using the Novell iManager browser-based DNS/DHCP management utility.
- The recommended settings for the Novell iManager browser-based DNS/DHCP management utility are as follows:
800 * 600 |
Small |
Medium to Smallest |
1024 * 768 |
Small |
Largest to Smallest |
- This release supports Internet Explorer 5.0 and Internet Explorer 5.5 SP2.
- While importing the DHCP configuration, if the subnet address range contains a reference to an external DHCP server, this reference is automatically replaced by a reference to the default DHCP server that you specify.
- The Novell iManager browser-based DNS/DHCP management utility works with DNS and DHCP servers that are based on ISC BIND Version 4.9.6 and ISC DHCP Version 2.
- When you create PTR-type resource records in the reverse zone, in order to avoid errors, ensure that the first three octets of the IP address match corresponding values of the reverse zone. If you do not, you will encounter an error. In this case, cancel the operation and restart the process.
