Novell Announces Partnership Between Its TUXEDO System Division And JYACC, Inc.

Partnership Provides TUXEDO Customers With Easier Development Platform for Building Partitioned Client/Server Applications

Summit, N.J.--February 1, 1995--In response to customer need for additional application development tools for its TUXEDO product line, Novell, Inc., today announced that its TUXEDO System Division has signed a partnership agreement with JYACC, Inc. TUXEDO is a flexible application development and runtime architecture for the implementation of business-critical, distributed client/server applications, and a key component of the enterprise computing solution set provided by TUXEDO, NetWare and UnixWare. With this partnership, JYACC will provide their leading cross-platform tool, JAM/TPi, on TUXEDO for building partitioned client/server applications. Together, these products provide customers with the framework, communications services, and development tools to rapidly and easily create and deploy high performance enterprise applications using existing hardware and software.

Novell's history of win-win partnering demonstrates its genuine commitment to providing an open, robust networked environment as a platform for building profitable business-critical applications, network services and worldwide support for corporate enterprises, small business and consumers alike. "In an effort to provide our customers with easier development platforms for TUXEDO, we are working with JYACC, a leading tool vendor, to provide their development tools to TUXEDO," said Joe Menard, vice president and general manager, TUXEDO System Division. "By working with JYACC and JAM/TPi, we can significantly ease development and assist ISVs and end users in lowering their development and implementation costs."

TUXEDO and JAM/TPi provide customers with a well managed application development environment for distributed applications and application partitioning by integrating the user interface and relational database capabilities of JAM with the distributed processing capabilities of TUXEDO. With JAM/TPi, a single graphical tool can be used to develop both client and server application components. "This partnership will ensure a tight integration between JAM/TPi and the TUXEDO System, giving our customers the satisfaction that JAM is not only as efficient as it can be with TUXEDO, but also supports the newest features," said Bob Ismach, president of JYACC.

TUXEDO and JAM have been praised extensively by computer industry analysts. "JAM/TPi is the best thing that has happened to TUXEDO. JAM is a highly regarded environment, and its TPi extension is exactly the kind of tool needed to help TP monitor vendors become more successful," said Dave Hudson, Standish Group. It allows users to get to the next level of scalability in building three-tier client/server applications. This is definitely a need that few vendors have addressed yet."

This agreement consists of mutual design and engineering support, training and education, seminar participation, shared beta programs, reseller channel support and cooperative marketing campaigns. Through this agreement, JYACC also becomes a TUXEDO Consulting Partner, leveraging the resources and expertise they have acquired through supporting the TUXEDO System. "This acknowledges their experience with and dedication to Novell products which include TUXEDO and UnixWare," said Menard. "Partners like JYACC are key to Novell's goal to deliver products that are reliable, easily managed and provide a flexible, scalable platform to meet the changing needs of tomorrows networks."

TUXEDO System 5, the latest release of TUXEDO, enables customers to have the flexibility to deploy large distributed systems, and to easily expand or change their systems through one of TUXEDO's newest features, /Domains. With /Domains, customers can also easily manage TUXEDO servers in administratively autonomous groups called domains, and set parameters for the interactions between domains. TUXEDO System 5 also extends TUXEDO interoperability to include DCE and other non-TUXEDO environments.

Novell's TUXEDO system provides an architecture for implementing mission-critical business applications in distributed, client/server environments. TUXEDO is the market leading transaction processing environment which provides secure, cost-effective, high performance electronic commerce for use in industries such as banking, telecommunications, finance and retail.
