Novell Announces InfoCentral 2.0 For Windows

Enhanced features give users increased productivity and ease of use

OREM, Utah--April 3, 1995--Novell, Inc. today announced InfoCentral 2.0 for Windows will begin shipping in July. The new version of Novell's personal information manager will increase user's productivity at home and office through enhanced calendaring, address book, free-form notes and printing capabilities.

InfoCentral helps users organize and manage daily information, tasks and contacts because it works the way users think. The new version offers users increased productivity through proactive information management and a product that is easier to use. User's continue to have the ability to integrate information and customize their settings.

InfoCentral 2.0 is built on the powerful iConnect technology and has been incorporated under an easier-to-use interface. The iConnect technology stores information about connections and objects.

"With this release of InfoCentral, we have focused on enhancing our users' productivity by adding some neat features such as Quick Notes and Caller ID. No more scribbling on random pieces of paper -- incoming phone calls are automatically input into InfoCentral as a Quick Note, which saves users time," said Sam Yee, product marketing director, consumer products division, Novell, Inc. "This functionality will help users maintain the level of productivity necessary to effectively manage their daily responsibilities."

To help users better manage their information, InfoCentral 2.0 offers Quick Notes, caller identification (Caller ID), daily reminders and enhanced calendar printing. Quick Notes, a new feature, is available in any view of InfoCentral and provides a quick way to jot down notes or action items. Users have the option of attaching Quick Notes to a person or organization or leaving it as a stand-alone note.

When combined with Caller ID, Quick Notes become a simple and time-saving method for organizing phone calls. The Caller ID technology automatically inputs a caller's information into InfoCentral and allows the user to see the identity of the caller.

The automatic reminder dialog box appears when the user logs into InfoCentral. The dialog box shows all appointments, meetings, tasks, follow-ups and birthdays that pertain to that particular day.

The enhanced printing allows users to print out full-featured calendars in any of the available views. Users can also print their daily schedule, which will include a complete list of the day's tasks.

For greater ease of use in InfoCentral 2.0, new address book and enhanced calendaring capabilities have been included. The new address book allows users to input complete information about contacts and the organizations their contacts are affiliated with. Users can also view their address book information alphabetically and access and edit information they have entered about people and organizations.

The enhanced calendar enables users to view and print information in a day, week, month and year perspective. The calendar also keeps track of meetings, daily tasks, follow-up calls and reminders, such as birthdays. From the month view, users can preview the events and reminders of an upcoming day.

InfoCentral continues to ship with content iBases and templates on a variety of subjects to get users started using the product. The 2.0 release includes a new iBase containing detailed information for small and startup businesses. Information is included to help users find tax information, find government agencies, and even examine publications targeted at small businesses.

InfoCentral 2.0 continues to offer users integration and customization. Users can organize information through OLE 2.0 technology and file manager. Users can launch other applications from InfoCentral and can also connect a file created in another application to an existing object in InfoCentral.

The new version continues to gives users flexibility in customizing user settings and personalizing the arrangement of information. Users can modify fields, records and categories.

InfoCentral has been honored by Jesse Berst's Windows Watcher International Innovation Award and most recently by Windows Magazine 1995 WIN 100 Software Awards, which recognizes the year's top 100 Windows products.

System Requirements and Availability

InfoCentral 2.0 is available for Windows and requires an IBM 386 or compatible with 4MB RAM, 6-11 MB hard disk space and Windows 3.1 or higher. An upgrade package will be available for current InfoCentral users.
