Novell Names Jeff Waxman To Head Applications Group
Orem, UT, -- May 11, 1995 -- Novell, Inc. today announced the
appointment of Jeffrey H. Waxman as executive vice president and
general manager of its Applications Group, the Novell business unit that
develops and markets such leading products as PerfectOffice,
WordPerfect, and GroupWise. Waxman will report directly to Novell
chairman and CEO Robert J. Frankenberg. He joins Novell from
ServiceSoft Corporation, the leading developer of diagnostics software,
where as president and CEO he steered the company onto its current
track of profitability and growth.
Before joining ServiceSoft, Waxman was president and chief
executive officer of Uniplex, Inc., a leading international developer of
integrated office applications for open systems; and vice president sales
and marketing for Computer Consoles, Inc., a developer of minicomputer
software and the first integrated suite of office applications. A veteran
of over 25 years in technology industries, he worked from 1968 to 1983
at Xerox Corporation where he became field operations manager for
Federal sales worldwide.
"Jeff Waxman has the right track record as CEO and business
leader with an international perspective to build on the significant
progress of our Applications Group," said Frankenberg. "The new
PerfectOffice application suite and GroupWise electronic mail and
workgroup productivity product are rapidly gaining market share as
Novell begins to lead the way to network applications. Jeff has the
vision and experience to focus our efforts to deliver applications that
have no equal in the way they help our customers communicate and
collaborate over computer networks."
Waxman said, "The growth Novell sees today in products like
PerfectOffice and GroupWise is just the beginning of a tremendous
opportunity for network applications. As the undisputed leader in
networking, Novell has the talented people, partnerships, and technology
in place to capitalize on that opportunity. While Novell networks provide
the infrastructure for the information highway, our applications will
provide the vehicles our customers need to use the highway -- at work,
at home, or anyplace where they need information."
Waxman takes charge of a group now generating approximately
30% of Novell revenues through its Business Application, Groupware,
and Consumer Products divisions. Novell's PerfectOffice suite has
achieved 25% market share since its December release, surpassing
Lotus Smart Suite as the second best-selling suite in the marketplace,
while Novell's GroupWise and related groupware products continue to
experience strong growth after more than tripling share to 15% of market
in 1994. Sales are also increasing for individual Novell business
applications such as WordPerfect 6.1 for Windows and WordPerfect 3.1
for the Macintosh. In addition, the group produces a line of consumer
and productivity software under the PerfectHome brand.
Waxman, 48, will relocate to Utah, site of the principal
development and business facilities for the Novell Applications Group.
He replaces Ad Rietveld, former executive vice president and general
manager of the Applications Group, who resigned in March to pursue
other opportunities.
