Novell End User CourseWare To Provide Literacy On Novell End-User Products
New Applications Courseware for WordPerfect, PerfectOffice and GroupWise Offers Diverse Learning Options
June 6, 1995--EDGE '95--Novell Education, the leader in IT Systems
training, introduces End User courseware designed to fit the diverse
learning needs of the large end-user applications market. The
courseware's unique modular delivery system follows a building-block
design. Rather than teach single applications and features, the modules
focus on often-performed tasks that span the full Novell applications
suite. This modularity allows instructors and end users alike to tailor the
courseware to specific tasks, providing any range of training necessary.
"The Novell End User courseware will raise end-user literacy on
Novell applications products, bridging the knowledge gap between
technology and the way people work," said Carolyn G. Rose, Vice
President and General Manager of Novell Education. "This literacy allows
both organizations and individuals to be more productive."
MODULAR DESIGN
To handle the scope and diversity of the new audience of
applications end users, Novell designed its End User courseware as
modular blocks that consist of one introduction module and multiple
add-on modules and courses. This approach allows end users to learn
those tasks that are most important to their work, and allows applications
instructors to tailor their classes to meet student needs. Training with
these task-based modules, for example, allows instructors to build
courses around the training needs of a specific audience--like a word
processing pool, a group of executive officers, or administrative
assistants.
Instructors can easily utilize the cross-product modularity of the
Novell End User courseware to train across applications. The
PerfectOffice Introduction for New Users foundational module serves as
an excellent foundation for many product modules that can be mixed and
matched. The Novell End User modular courseware encompasses tasks
performed in PerfectOffice, WordPerfect, Quattro Pro, Presentations,
Paradox, Envoy, InfoCentral, GroupWise, InForms, and SoftSolutions.
"Industry-wide standalone and feature-based training are
currently available for end users. However, there is a greater need for
integrated, solution-based training," said Gary Clark, Director of Programs
and Services for Novell Education. "Novell's End User courseware
focuses on integrated solutions, raising the end-user literacy level past
single applications, and teaching knowledge workers how to use the
tools that will help them perform their jobs more efficiently and
productively."
Beta users of the End User courseware consider the modules to
be easy to use and a positive addition to the current market. According to
Kathleen Richards, Assistant Professor in the Office Technology and
Administration Department at Utah Valley State College, having the
modules already in place makes it a convenient decision for
organizations to purchase and teach with them. "I worked with various
modules on Paradox, InForms and Quattro Pro and found myself easily
integrated with the applications," said Richards. "Anyone wanting to
increase their knowledge and abilities within this technology would be
wise to use the tools and training offered in this courseware."
DISTRIBUTION
The Novell End User courseware will be broadly distributed.
Courseware and instructor-led training will be available through Novell
Authorized Education Centers, Novell Education Academic Partners, and
Novell Application Training Providers. Additionally, courseware will be
available to resellers through distributors; and to academic institutions
(such as community colleges, high schools, business and technical

NOVELL EDUCATION PERSPECTIVE
Novell Education's mission is to drive global pervasive computing
through quality education programs and products. Since 1987, Novell has
pioneered a leveraged model for
providing training. Today, Novell training partners around the globe
provide instructor-led training and other self-study options to student
customers. Novell Authorized Education Centers in North America also
offer distance learning via satellite. In 1995, Novell's 1,300 Novell training
partners will teach three quarters of a million student customers.
In addition to innovating the leveraged education model, Novell
Education has also pioneered certification in the information technology
area with its industry-leading programs. CNEs are the global standard for
servicing and supporting networking and network
applications; CNAs are the global standard for administering networking
and network applications; and CNIs are the global standard for teaching networking and network applications. Currently, there are more than 60,000-plus
CNEs, as well as 90,000 CNEs "in progress." There are 4,700-plus
ECNEs, more than 50,000 CNAs and more than 3,000 CNIs.
