Novell Delivers NetWare Client For Windows NT
Windows NT Workstation Users Can Now Access the Full
Benefits of NetWare 4 Advanced Services, Including NetWare Directory
Services
PC EXPO, New York -- June 19, 1995 -- Novell, Inc. today announced
the availability of the NetWare Client for Windows NT, enabling
Microsoft Windows NT desktop users to benefit from full integration with
NetWare, including NetWare 4's Directory Services (NDS). Integrated
access to NDS offers Windows NT users significant new advantages
including a single network login, a single point of administration and full
browsing and management of the NetWare directory environment
through the new 32-bit graphical user interface of the NetWare
Administrator management tool (NWAdmin). The NetWare Client for
Windows NT optimizes access to essential network services integrated
with NetWare 4, giving Windows NT users access to the industry's
leading distributed network operating system (NOS).
"The availability of the NetWare Client for Windows NT supports
our commitment to provide the richest client software for all major
desktop platforms," said William Donahoo, director of product marketing
for Novell's NetWare Products Division. "With the NetWare Client for
Windows NT, Microsoft's Windows NT users now have robust and
reliable access to the industry-standard and most full-featured NOS."
NetWare Client for Windows NT
The NetWare Client for Windows NT provides desktop users with
secure, robust and reliable NetWare access. Microsoft Windows NT 3.5
and NT 3.51 users can browse through the NetWare directory and
NetWare file system; share files and NetWare resources with DOS,
Windows 3.x, OS/2, Macintosh and UNIX users; print to NetWare
printers; and access NetWare applications and services through their
native Windows NT interface. The NetWare client easily installs through
the Windows NT Network Control Panel and self-configures to give
users a quick and easy connection to NetWare 3 or NetWare 4
environments, including NetWare 4.1. The NetWare client also offers
users a choice of popular networking protocols (IPX/SPX or TCP/IP) to
effortlessly link with existing network environments upon installation.
With full support for NetWare 4.1 and NDS, Windows NT client
users gain transparent access to all NetWare resources and services,
regardless of their physical location. Integrated authentication
processes allow users to have a single name and password to
simultaneously register their NT Workstation and NetWare network
services.
The NetWare Client for Windows NT employs the native Windows
NT desktop interfaces to give users intuitive access to network
resources. Tasks such as mapping network drives, capturing to
network print queues, choosing a NetWare directory tree, attaching to
multiple servers and sending messages to others are easily completed
through Windows NT File Manager.
First 32-Bit NetWare Administrator, NWAdmin
The Windows NT Client ships with the first full 32-bit version of
NetWare Administrator (NWAdmin), the premier application for managing
NetWare environments and NDS. The 32-bit version of NWAdmin lets
network managers benefit from performance increases of up to 30
percent over the existing 16-bit version when performing tasks such as
directory searches and file listings. Novell client technology advances,
such as the 32-bit NWAdmin, continue to assist network managers in
reducing the time and resources spent performing routine network
administration and maintenance.
NetWare Client SDK
Application developers can build client-server applications for
Windows NT desktops to access the essential services of NetWare 3
and NetWare 4 with the NetWare Client SDK, which supports Novell's
Windows NT client. This SDK includes a complete library of 32-bit
application programming interfaces (APIs) also available as part of the
Novell Software Developer's Kit CD-ROM. The full Novell SDK, including
the NetWare Client SDK, with comprehensive API library is available now
for $250.00 through Novell's developer subscription program, and is
updated on a quarterly basis.
