Novell Forms Personal Access Division
New Organization to Extend Network Access to Homes, Schools
& Small Businesses
OREM, Utah -- June 29, 1995 -- Novell, Inc. today announced the
organization of the Personal Access Division, a new part of the company
to focus on extending network access to individuals in homes, schools
and small businesses. The new division is part of Novell's Information
Access and Management Group (IAMG), the Novell product organization
that focuses on providing customers with global information access.
To create the new division, Novell is transforming its Consumer
Products Division, which had previously focused on stand alone
applications for the home. The new division's expanded charter includes
providing homes and small businesses with networked application suites
and integrated access to commercial on-line services, the Internet and
AT&T Netware Connect Services (ANCS).
"By joining IAMG, the Personal Access Division will further
Novell's vision of connecting people to people and giving them the
information they need at anytime and anyplace," said Steve Markman,
executive vice president of IAMG at Novell. "We've united an
experienced staff with backgrounds in multimedia education and
personal productivity, interface design, home-based application
development, and consumer retail marketing. IAMG is now poised to
extend network access to people everywhere with innovative products
from a division of the company that knows the consumer marketplace."
Novell will continue to market applications under the PerfectHome
brand, including such currently shipping titles as PerfectWorks; Hard
Evidence: The Marilyn Monroe Files; and the Clip Art Multimedia Collection.
PerfectHome products are currently available from more than 3000 North
American retailers, warehouse clubs and computer superstores.
The Personal Access Division will focus primarily on delivering
networked application suites to the small business and home with links to
on-line services, the Internet and AT&T Netware Connect Services. Last
month Novell joined America Online in their announcement to integrate
software products with their commercial on-line services, giving users
one-button access to specific, real-time information. In the near future,
Novell will work with third-party consumer information providers to
create a direct, secure internet, thus providing these companies with a
one-on-one electronic link with their customers.
Novell also has strong ties to the global information network, the
Internet, through a partnership with Netscape. In February, the company
announced an agreement with Netscape to license its Netscape
Navigator software for browsing the Internet's World Wide Web. Novell
also has plans for its own next generation browser technology code
named "Ferret" which will expand the Netscape agreement.
In cooperation with AT&T, Novell will eliminate network and
information boundaries with AT&T Netware Connect Services. ANCS will
provide wide area network connectivity that has the reliability, security
and manageability required for corporate use, as well as small
businesses and consumers in homes. The Personal Access Division will
take the ANCS technology and allow for instant connectivity to networks
from the home and small business.
"We look forward to extending network access to our customers
through the world's leading consumer network, America Online, with
one-button access to relevant, real time information," said Jeff Mallett,
vice president and general manager, Personal Access Division, Novell.
"We also look forward to moving ahead aggressively with AT&T
Netware Connect Services to extend network access through our own
networked consumer applications as well as other third-party
applications. The Personal Access Division joins the IAMG team with the
skills, expertise and people to deliver networked consumer applications
and services to the burgeoning $3 billion consumer market and 40 million
computers in homes and small businesses."
